Kenya AA Thambana Kiungu
Tastes Like: Blackcurrant Lime Green Apple
Almost everyone with an appreciation of specialty coffee looks forward to Kenyan coffee season and their renowned and distinctive flavour profiles, and this coffee from the Thambana Farmers Cooperative Society is a great example of why that is. Kenya's volcanic soils, high precipitation, altitude and stable temperatures, combined with farming practises all contribute to its characterstic rich flavours.
The Thambana Cooperative, located near Mount Kenya, has two factories and operates with over 800 local small farmers. All of the coffee cherries are sorted by hand, before being pulped, fermented and washed. The coffee pulp leftover from processing is used as a fertiliser by the farmers back on they coffee crops, which grow amongst banana, macadamia, avocado and mango.
The Thambana Kiungu exhibits florals of green tea, jasmin and blackcurrant, with a lingering crisp tart acidity of lemon, lime and green apple.
Available for either espresso or filter coffee brewing.
